要約 (任意): (英) Research regarding optimal distance is a common topic in the field of facility location. For situations where nearness to a facility is important, most of the traditional models seek facility locations that minimize overall transportation costs. Although nearness may be convenient for some facilities, others have a negative effect on the environment. The most appropriate place for an undesirable facility is as far away as possible from all sensitive areas. This minimizes social costs such as environmental harm. However, there are also some facilities that are necessary for the community but have an obnoxious impact on the residents. A model for such kinds of facilities needs to consider farness and convenience, two contradictory aspects. Here we focus on one of the semi-undesirable facilities, that of garbage containers. We consider the optimal distance between a residential location and the waste disposal facilities with respect to residential awareness. Contrary to the common location models based on physical parameters such as distance or time, we propose a method that considers residential psychology and can be used for allocation planning of semi-undesirable facilities by analysing citizen's awareness. To achieve this purpose, we used the city of Tokushima, Japan as a case study, and undertook a survey by means of a questionnaire. From the questionnaire, we grasped people's acceptable distance which is farther than the minimum of their endurance distance and shorter than the maximum of their desirable distance, for the semi-undesirable facilities of garbage containers. Based on the data, we could estimate parameters for the model of a citizen's acceptance rate. As the acceptable distance is regarded as a variable, the relationship between the distance from the residential location to the waste facility and the citizen's acceptance rate is a problem of probability and statistics.
