(英) Electric Omni-Directional Wheelchair for Narrow Corridor House

(日) 狭隘な住宅環境に適した全方位移動電動車いすの研究

(英) The purpose of this study is to develop a wheelchair which can be operated by a handicapped person by him/herself in a barrierfree construction as smoothly as the movement of a no handicapped person. To make a barrier-free environment is possible by renovating the building, but expansion of the room or corridor width is difficult because of the structure of pillars and walls. When viewing from the top, the broadest part of the handicapped person's body is the width of the shoulders, and the width become narrower at his or her knees. Because of this, when making the shape of the wheelchair to fit in Reuleaux Triangle, it will be possible to put the body outline of the handicapped person on the wheelchair, and that makes the wheelchair possible to turn around in the narrow corridor.The following results were obtained by experimenting on the prototype. The width of the corridor that was able to turn around was 800mm in turn operation, and 750mm in compound operation. It was effective for the movement in a narrow room and the change of the route.
